The Dreaded Period

Period poverty is a global issue affecting women and girls who don’t have access to safe, hygienic sanitary products, and/or who are unable to manage their periods with dignity, sometimes due to community stigma and sanction.

Period Shaming

Bleeding through your dress can be embarrassing. Girls will skip school during their period to avoid shame, which puts them behind in their studies.

We encourage safe communication with the girls to help them feel less shameful about menstruating.

Sanitary Pad Workshops

On our next trip to Guatemala, we are planning to facilitate a workshop on how to make and maintain reusable sanitation pads. Continually purchasing pads and tampons is an added cost many of the families we work with cannot afford. Reusable pads ensures women and girls they have a way to stay clean during menstruation. Our workshop is also geared toward women who want to start a small business making and selling pads.

Hygiene Kits

Sometimes cleaning and reusing sanitation pads isn't feasible for all girls. In those cases, we also provide single use pads when it's the last option available.
